Bio: BJ is an 11-year-old mare. We think she is a mustang, but she does not have any brands. She is fairly skittish and shy of people. She is super sweet and is not aggressive in any way. I am rehoming her because I do not have the land or facility to let her live a free life and I don’t want her wasting away in a stall, and I don’t have the time to work with her. BRANDY (CL)

BRANDY (CL)

Category: Riding
Age: 7
Gender: Mare

Breed: Appendix QH

Bio: Brandy was an orphan baby, her mom died of a prolapse after giving birth. She was raised with another mare in her first year. Once she was getting bigger, the woman got pregnant and was unable to raise Brandy (Blue) so she sold her to a college age girl who wanted a barrel horse. Brandy was 2.5 yrs, the girl had her started by a young female trainer in Fallbrook California. The college girl (owner) quickly realized she was in over her head with the young mare who had rearing issues. She had also been in some accident where she flipped in a wash rack or cross tie and that's where i believe she injured her pelvis (croup). The severity of the accident was never disclosed to me, they only told me she has rearing issues and she had "kicked a fence" which i later found stitches in her stifle post purchase. So ive been putting pieces together over the years and have realized it was a shady sale, Ive done a lot of work with this horse, put a lot of money into her, and she enjoys to be ridden on trail and arena. When she was in western training with a man Craig Crowley in Temecula Ca, i noticed signs her back was getting more sore as time went on. I brought her home, and we then diagnosed her with Kissing Spine and Stomach Ulcers. The ulcers got treated while the Kissing Spine was devastating news. In 2022 We had her treated with Injections, shockwave and decided to Rehabilitate her back with my trainer Lisa Nicholson, very intuitive gentle body worker and knowledgeable horse woman. During that time she was not working under saddle, after about 6 month, i was riding her again lightly, until we went to a Buck Branaman clinic which Brandy did amazing at. Brandy is always up for an adventure and loves to run. She has a sweet mellow side, and she also has a pushy in your space bratty nippy tendency, she loves people, and loves attention. She's judgmental of ferriers, been great and quiet for some and been bratty and impossible with others. Good with vets, but can be a handful with anything needles. She doesn't rear under saddle, doesn't need spurs, really sensitive, she's never bucked me off or thrown me off, but you have to be careful while working on the ground with her. She has struck at me a handful of times, and has knocked me over when she got spooked one time and i injured my head. She's used to bikes, dogs, goats, trailering, stands in the cross tie, and at the trailer (with aussie tie) pulls back on anything hitching post like, grooms and tacks nicely, quiet with mounting and dismounting, she's willing and confident, ive crossed creeks and rivers with her, and taken her to the beach, on camping trips, day rides, and hikes. She's played around with barrels, jumps, ranch riding, and obstacle courses.

Bio: Meet Grande Warrior (“Diana”), a striking Thoroughbred mare looking for a special new home. Diana has a rich and varied background — from her early days on the track to winning the Freestyle division at the National Thoroughbred Makeover and later competing in local eventing shows at the novice and training levels with my teenaged daughter. Energetic, intelligent, and full of personality, Diana thrives with consistent handling and attention. She does best with an experienced rider who can manage her sensitive back, weak stifles, and occasional bucking or spookiness when out of work. As my daughter heads off to college, we’re searching for a knowledgeable and caring home where she can be appreciated for the special horse she is. She still has much riding potential if in the right hands. We’re based in Fort Collins, Colorado, and are open to discussing any thoughtful placement where Diana can live a safe and fulfilling life.

GUS (CL)

GUS (CL)

Category: Non-Riding Companion
Age: 10
Gender: Gelding

Breed: Quarter Horse

Bio: On the ground, Gus is as sweet of a horse as they come. I practice doing my Equine message therapy on him, and he eats it up. He has been lame for over two years, and we did x-rays on him last summer. He has pretty severe early onset arthritis. Even with corrective shoeing and arthritis meds, we haven't been able to get him riding sound. As a riding horse he also has a little bit of a playful buck at the start of some rides when he is fresh, so he is NOT suitable for light beginner riding. He hasn't bucked any of my family off, but they are fairly experienced riders. You can get him to not buck if you lunge him first, but you have to work him harder than his joints are comfortable. Again, his strength is his ground manners and companion ability. In our herd of about twenty horses he is very low on the pecking order and is a very sweet horse to other horses. Last year we kept him in for the winter (he needs some alfala in the winter) with the young weanlings and he was a great companion with them. We run cows on a large cattle ranch, and he really can't complete the work out here. He is fine here for the time being (especially since he makes a good practice massage horse) but I would like to see if we can find a companion home where he will get more love. She has had extensive show exposure, which makes her reliable and sound minded. Piper was unfortunately diagnosed with ringbone in the front right pastern in January 2024 but is expected to be capable of light work far into her middle age by treatment with joint injections as needed. Piper would make an excellent addition to a home in search of a horse to love and care for as she ages. Located in Morrison, CO.

RAGNAR

RAGNAR

Category: Staff
Age: 16
Gender: Gelding
Height: 15.1

Breed: Quarter Horse

Bio: My name is Ragnar and I am indeed a warrior horse. My previous life was as a bucking horse on the rodeo circuit until I got smart and quit bucking. I was fired from that job and ended up at the auction as a throw away horse. CHR, lucky for me, was there that day, bought me, and brought me to the rescue. I'm losing my fear of people but still tend to overreact to almost anything and everything. Patience and talent will be needed by my adopter. Resources and more than one trainer may be needed - but they think I'm worth all the effort and I couldn't agree more!

Handler Experience: Trainer - Has an advanced skill set plus several years of experience in successfully teaching multiple types of green horses.

Bio: Ranger is a handsome, loveable boy who recently became lame (the first time in the 5 years I've owned him). He is showing improvement after three weeks of Previcox but his future as a riding horse is uncertain, which is why I'm listing him only as a companion horse at this time. When sound, Ranger is excellent on trails, either alone or with one to two other horses. He does well in a herd and is generally agreeable around all other horses. He is very responsive to people and would make a lovely companion! I am looking for a new home for Ranger because I recently bought a new horse. Feel free to contact me for more details. RED (CL)

RED (CL)

Category: Non-Riding Companion
Age: 22
Gender: Gelding

Breed: Quarter Horse

Bio: I have him as a companion horse. Red is an affectionate, gentle, and loving horse. He has navicular but has been treated with proper shoeing and a mild anti-inflammatory once a day. He has been without pain for about 3 years. He would be a very good horse for a young first rider. I would prefer that he be ridden at a walk, and is not ridden at a trot or gallop, because of his navicular history. When I release him into a pasture he runs, trots, and rolls without pain. He gets a blood test every 6 months to make sure that his Kidneys are not affected by his medicine. Located in Arvada, CO.

TC (CL)

TC (CL)

Category: Non-Riding Companion
Age: 13
Gender: Gelding

Breed: Thoroughbred

Bio: TC is a love bug that I just don't have the time to give to. My own work/life balance has made it very clear that I am not the right person for him and so I am looking for other options so he can live out his years in a happy way that he deserves. He loves being out with a herd (currently lives outside) and gets along well with everyone / although sometimes he thinks he’s a bit of a stud when it comes to mares and small things (minis, dogs, people, etc.). He has never had a comprehensive vet check, but it's very clear that it would pop up with tendon issues - he can stay mostly sound in work but due to my schedule I haven't been able to keep him in work long term, which is why it really doesn't make sense for me to keep pushing it and why I have listed him as a companion. He is very handsome, but keeping his sound/sane ratio in check is proving impossible for me and I know that there is a better situation for him out there! I am in no rush and want to find the perfect situation for him.

Age: 9

Breed: Paint

Bio: This special horse came to the rescue from a dude ranch. Through his initial medical exam, it was found that Thunder has a special heart. Thunder's heart has an "irregularly irregular" arrhythmia that holds him back from a future riding career. However, it doesn't hold him back from being a playful, outgoing, handsome fellow who would love to join the right herd! Thunder is otherwise an easy keeping horse and will thrive with a knowledgeable handler as he is still a youngster. Thunder is fast learning and would call himself a "pocket pony." He is gaining confidence and enjoying working with his people!

VIOLET (CL)

VIOLET (CL)

Category: Non-Riding Companion
Age: 20
Gender: Mare

Breed: Haflinger

Bio: Violet is a coming 20 year old (April 29) Haflinger mare who stands about 14 hands tall. I got her 3 years ago but soon after she started to be on and off lame and we tried a lot of things to remedy the issue (x rays, shoes, etc) but after a great trail ride she injured her tendon and even with stall rest she's not sound, even though an ultrasound revealed that her tendon has healed. So i am not chasing the issue any longer and retire my horse from riding. Due to her having Cushing's disease (what actually affects tendons and ligaments) she probably won't be sound enough to ride. She does not show lameness at a walk and could tote a small kid around but I am trying to find her a companion home only. I have now a new horse I can ride but don't have enough money to board both of them and the current boarding situation (hilly) is not favorable for Violet. She's a sweet horse, bottom of totem pole, stands for vet and farrier (barefoot), up to date on all shots and teeth floating. I am very attached to her so i don't want to surrender her necessarily, I just don't have the space or money to keep her. I would still pay for her daily Cushing's pill (Prascend) and need to be able to visit every once in a while. Violet will most likely move to Nunn (Fort Collins area) mid April to a pasture only boarding facility but she most probably won't be loved on each day and that's what i want for her as well, horses and people! I have hundreds of pictures of her and you can ask me anything about her! Located in Parker, CO

WINDSOR (CL)

Category: Riding
Age: 27
Gender: Gelding
Height: 15.3

Breed: Thoroughbred

Bio: I have been using Windsor for horse therapy sessions, for children and adults with mental and physical challenges for the past 15 years. He loves the therapy work and children love him too, especially when doing his many tricks like answering funny questions by shaking his head yes or no, giving smiles, hugs and kisses, counting, picking up objects, telling jokes, taking his horse blanket off with his mouth, and many more! I am a horse trainer at the Ken Caryl Equine facility and also specialize in training horses to be calm, confident, relaxed and under control in any situation. Windsor is a true partner and extremely reliable, confident, controlled and bomb proof especially on the trails, parades, etc. There has never been one instance during therapy work, or any anytime where he did not remain totally calm, and connected to the handler when under stressful, difficult, and unexpected situations. Windsor is about 27 years old, is in great shape and has plenty of muscle and stamina for continuing with the therapy work, area work and 2-3 mile trail rides for many years and is happy walking trotting or cantering. He has no current and no prior health issues, has never had colic, etc. He has had a few teeth fall out, but there are no medical problems with his teeth, mouth, or gums. Because of that I supplement his hay feed with pellet grass, alfalfa and oats that are mixed with water which he eats several times a week. Located in Littleton, CO.
