Volunteer

Every minute donated by our generous volunteers creates a better world for horses. Their generosity is the pulse of Colorado Horse Rescue.

WHO CAN

VOLUNTEER?

Your time is a gift, and we are infinitely grateful that our volunteers choose to spend part of their days with us. Together is the only way we can build a better future for horses. All experience levels are welcome.

  • Independent volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
  • Youth volunteers between the ages of 14 and 18 are required to volunteer with a parent or guardian.
  • Companies, clubs and organizations can contact us to organize a group farm help day during which you can all work together for the benefit of the horses.

*Disclaimer: Due to COVID-19 we are not currently accepting any new volunteers at this time. Please check back for updates!*

Volunteer Tasks

BARN CHORES

Get outside and spend time caring for, feeding and interacting with our herd. We offer a comprehensive education program to help volunteers become accomplished equine caretakers, which requires consistency and keen attention to safety. Grooming and handling are rewards for this hardworking group.

Volunteer Tasks

TOUR GUIDES

Introduce community members to our diverse herd and exceptional facility as a volunteer tour guide. Perfect for people who work full-time, these volunteers only work on weekends when we tend to get numerous drop-in tour requests.

Volunteer Tasks

FACILITIES MAINTENANCE

For those looking for outside farm work, come help us keep our Rescue in top condition. There’s always lots to do on our 51 acres: from fence repair, building upkeep, pasture harrowing and gardening to plumbing, electrical and vehicle maintenance (experience is a plus).

Volunteer Tasks

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS

Help out with indoor tasks such as filing, donor mailings, special event preparation and light computer work. Writing and organization skills are helpful, and your impact is felt throughout the entire community.

TIME COMMITMENT

AND SCHEDULING

  • All barn chore shifts run 2-3 hours per week. We ask for a commitment of one day/time per week for at least three months. Infrequent days off are no problem.
  • CHR hosts two barn shifts daily to feed and care for the horses: 8–11am and 3–5:30pm.
  • Scheduling for Facilities Maintenance and Administrative volunteers is flexible, although we do still ask for a regular weekly time commitment between Tuesday and Saturday.
  • Tour guide volunteers work on weekends only.
