From Uncertainty to Safety

Vanya's Story

At just four years old, Vanya’s future looked bright. Beautiful, athletic, and incredibly smart, she was in training to become a show jumper, her days filled with movement, purpose, and promise.

Then something changed.

Vanya began to show signs of pain, subtle at first, then impossible to ignore. A full medical evaluation revealed devastating news: Vanya was missing a disc in her spine. Her jumping career ended before it ever truly began, and her future suddenly became uncertain.

At the same time, Vanya’s owner was navigating major life changes, welcoming a growing family and facing the reality that the specialized therapy Vanya desperately needed was simply out of reach.

“I need to find a new home for my horse,” her owner shared, “and I don’t want to list her as ‘free’ anywhere and have her fall into the wrong hands.”

Without help, Vanya could have easily slipped into a dangerous situation – passed from place to place, misunderstood, or neglected because of her special needs.

But Vanya was lucky.

Through a trusted referral partnership with the ASPCA, she found her way to Colorado Horse Rescue, a place where horses like Vanya are seen, protected, and loved for who they are, not what they can do.

Today, this sweet, affectionate mare is safe. She’s receiving the care she needs, surrounded by compassion, and patiently waiting for her perfect companion love match, someone who will cherish her just as she is.
