National Horse

Protection Day

National Horse Protection Day, celebrated annually on March 1st, is a reminder of the importance of safeguarding horses from abuse and neglect.

Horses have played an integral role in human history, serving as companions, workers, competitors and therapy animals. Despite their contributions, many horses face severe challenges, including neglect, abuse, and abandonment. This day highlights these issues and encourages communities to take action to protect these majestic animals.

How You Can Participate

  • Raise Awareness: Share stories of rescued horses, like Josea’s below, and educate the public about the importance of proper horse care and the realities of neglect and abuse.
  • Volunteer: Offer your time here at CHR to help care for the horses. Your support can make a significant difference in their rehabilitation.
  • Adopt or Foster: If you’re considering bringing a horse into your life, think about adopting from a rescue. If long-term commitment isn’t feasible, fostering is a wonderful alternative that provides temporary care for horses in need.
  • Donate: Contributions are crucial for providing food, medical care, and shelter for our horses. Consider making a donation.
  • Leave a Legacy: Consider including CHR in your will or estate planning to ensure future support for at-risk horses.
  • Spread the Word: Use social media to promote National Horse Protection Day. Share posts using #HorseProtectionDay and #CHR to raise awareness among your friends and family

Celebrating CHR Horses

Josea

This year, like every year, we honor our equine friends. Each horse has a story worth telling. Josea came to us by way of The Annie Project after retiring from his dude ranch job at Cherokee Park Ranch. At 30 years old, Josea still had lots of energy left to give but was ready for a slower lifestyle.

Yesterday, he found his forever home as a companion to another wonderful senior horse. We celebrate the protection your support gave Josea and that his adoption can make space at CHR for another horse in need. By participating in National Horse Protection Day, we not only celebrate these magnificent animals but also commit ourselves to ensuring their safety and well-being for years to come. Join us in making a difference!

Hang tight while we go get your horse!
